Quick Change Fresh Or Stale? *May Contain Spoilers*

[The Freshness]

So it was Bill Murray Appreciation Night at Furiated Cinemas on Friday. First up was Quick Change, which I had never heard of nevermind seen. The movie is about a bank robbery and the ensuing getaway. Bill Murray robs the bank dressed as a clown, priceless. The getaway plan is flawless, until of course Randy Quaid honked a horn, and from there it is all downhill for our bank robbers.

Now not knowing anything about this movie made it much better for me I guess. The less you know about a movie, the lower the expectation. So less likely to be disappointed. Tony Shaloub plays the best character in the movie in my opinion. A cabbie who does not speak English, real stretch there. Quite a funny movie.

[The Staleness]

Quick Change is one of my all time favorite movies, I even saw it in the theater back in the day. Most people haven't even heard of it, fewer have seen it, but everyone I've talked to that has seen it has liked it, which makes me wonder why it isn't more well known.

This movie is divided into two parts, the initial bank robbery, and the attempt to get out of New York City. Both are great, the scam for the robbery is inspired, and is of a quality that when you watch it in action, you have to think that someone could actually pull this off. Well, maybe not anymore. The exercise in frustration that is the group trying to get out of the city, a task that seems fairly simple, is equal to, if not better than, the robbery itself. Tony Shaloub's cab driver definitely steals the show; we also get early glimpses of Stanley Tucci and Kurtwood Smith ("Can you fly Bobby?") Jason Robards is terrific as the cop trying to chase them down before they make a clean getaway, and thus shaming him in the press. At the end, you don't know whether you are rooting for Robards to find them, or rooting for them to catch their plane to Fiji... or was it Martinique?

[Verdict]

[The Freshness] This movie is getting a Fresh vote from me. Pleasantly surprised with it. If you have not seen it, see it. Do it, seriously.

[The Staleness] "You could have given us help. Instead, you've given us so much more." A personal favorite, this movie will be the first to be awarded the rarely seen label of Soopa Fresh. Definitely worth seeking out.

I've never seen it, but after that rave review of sorts, I'll have to add it to my Netflix queue.

Bank Guard: What the Hell kind of clown are you?

Grimm: The crying on the inside kind, I guess.
